Industrial Metal band Lucid Dementia stands apart from not only their musical diversity and female members, but also because their act features a six foot tall puppet named Lucy.
It may sound a bit far-fetched to one who hasn’t been to one of their shows, but because of the band’s diversity and imagination, it works and is quite entertaining.
Their shows are self-described as, “… Marilyn Manson meets Gwar…” and the show has acts that involve fake blood. Not bad for an avid fan of Gwar, horror flicks, and The Walking Dead.
Originally formed in 1996, they have released 4 EP’s. The most recent, “When the World Leaves You Behind. “ The album is available online at http://www.luciddementia.com, and you can also name your own price. Simply delightful.
The album release party date is April 5, 2013 in Austin, Texas at the venue Elysium.
They are the best local band I have seen here in the Live Music Capital. Most local acts seem to practice with a case of Lone Star beer – however, Lucid Dementia are professionals with a sense of humor. Because of this, they excel in their talent and create amazing shows for veteran and new fans alike.
Musically, the vocals are on point. The guitar is low and tight, the bass line stands out and adds an element of darkness. The drum beats are not only outstanding, but is the glue that brings these elements together. Female vocalist Holly and drummer Asil prove that women can play strong roles as not only survivors in an Industrial Metal band, but in the theatrics during shows. Being a woman, this deepens my infatuation for Lucid Dementia.
Several magazines have interviewed the band. Their music is heard in two episodes of NCIS, and in the independent horror film, “Sweatshop.”
